March 2008 Archives

Thank for Sarah, Tim, Heather, Megan, Donald, Albert and Nicole in three day mahout training course at Thai Elephant Conservation Center on 28-30 March. This group is the latest tourists in our mahout training course in March before closing the training course for one month during April as the weather is too hot for the elephants and especially there will be more tourists visit the camp during Traditional Thai New Year Holiday during 13-15 of April.

I took these pictures from Tim's Camera which is gorgeous one  and some taken by Tim as we went to cut the corn stack from the elephants in the evening. So this is very special for me, mahouts and the tourists to visit the local area and the mahouts very funny people...

Today is the latest day for them to join our three day mahout training course during 28-30 of March 2008, Albert and Nicole from Marcuy Australia. They have been joining our training course several time in the past, I think it 's about 3 times so far, but I am really sure.

I think there are so many tourists return to join our mahout training course, because they come back for their elephant like Albert he just booked Prachaub as his elephant and Nicky just specify Prathida as her elephant.. And there are so many tourist now keep booking the training course for the future now. So if any tourist who have been in our course in the past will come for the course in the future, they have to inform us in advance what is your elephant in previous visit as we do not want to disappoint any body in the future.

Yesterday was very special day for me and elephants. Once it was my birthday of 30 years so we took our mahouts and tourists to the local village to cut a lot of corn trees for the elephants as the big feast for next day..

So today Prachaub and her friends are very happy, they just stand still and do not move at all as they are too full of corn trees.

So this is regarded as special thanks from the mahouts to their elephants as we have been working together in the mahout training course for a whole year and this tourists is the latest group in three day mahout training course as in April we will close the Mahout training course for one month as the weather is too hot for the elephants...

Then we will resume the training course again around the beginning of May as the first rain properly start as I hope..

This is Prathida on the second day in Natural Breeding Program in the forest with Sri Dor Tadang, this video was taken by John the mahout of Prathida as he had to be around those elephant all the time. John is very good camera man and mahout..

I think the opportunity to see the elephant mating is very tiny as the Elephant breeding is very minimal, Please contact the  webmaster to remove this video if you found it improper for public view.

Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every body we have very good news from us is now we are breeding naturally on Prathida which is in the forest with Sridor Tadang. The breeding is quite very well as Prathida becomes estrous cycle this week and Tadang he is doing very good job. I hope that we will have a good news again after three or four months after we check the hormone rate of Prathida..

DSC03178

It's said that the female elephant become sexually active every month and after breeding program, Tadang he will become in Musth for about month or more than that.

Hopefully next four month, Prathida she will be pregnant and will give her first baby elephant next two year...

Cheer Prathida.

This elephant was call " Seven" as he was born July 7 2007 as unofficial name. Seven was born in Chiang Mai and brought to the Elephant Hospital of Thai Elephant Conservation Center in Lampang as his mom did not have enough milk for him.

It's said that the new born baby elephant has to drink milk from his mom within 8-12 hours otherwise the baby elephant will become very weak and unhealthy. So when Seven was first arrived at the Elephant Hospital, he looked very skinny. After staying at the Hospital, we raised a lot of infant formulas from very kind Thai people who know about Seven from daily news. There are a lot of infant formula sent to the camp and we gave to Seven as well as IA. Now Seven is very healthy and happy stay with his mom every day.

So today I took my tourists who join our three day mahout training course to visit the elephant hospital, we stopped and visited the Baby elephants " IA and Seven" and we found Seven was very joyful and cheerful. I found the he really enjoyed playing the football that some one brought and gave it to them.

Enjoy the photo..

I just post this photo taken from her camera, so husband can see her is riding on Jojo in Thailand (She is still alive, do not worry about her haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)  One of the reason to put her with Jojo as the first time she got off the car and she keeps talking a lot, so it just gives me a little deep thinking which elephant I have to put her with to math to Carolyn's behavior, so Jojo is the best elephant for this person. Then Carolyn she is just very happy as she always smile  and talk all the time and especially Jojo just keeps splashing the water around when we take the elephant for bath.

I just want to say very much for Rhonda, Jon from USA, Lene, Jan and her lovely daughter Liar, Sisel, in three day mahout training course. This time it 's quite very special trip for them and us as on the second day, we have to bring the elephants into the forest in the morning as there was no activities at the camp as we have National Election in Thailand, so we have to close all activities for one day.. So every mahouts have to bring their elephants into the forest for grazing and resting.. So we left the camp in the morning around 09:30 Am. and stay there for about 4 hours, all elephants are very happy with the big belly. We took the elephants back to the camp in the evening, we really enjoyed taking the elephants for bathing like you can see it on the photos that I took it. I wish all you guy will back to this experience in the future.;

Sincerest Thanks,
Supat Sutti
